Bio: I enjoy a variety of artistic styles particularly working with clay. I created this piece with Plaster Moulds made from shells, then clay slip created ceramic shells. Multiple commercial glazes and gold lustre fired. Hand stitched using quilting thread.
Description Humans more fully value something after it’s gone. Natalie’s art is often inspired by her strong connection to her past. “The ruins” was the palapa where she stayed in Mexico, when given the old shells. As a nurse to breast cancer sufferers, the addition of new shells to “the ruins”, was just as important as honouring the story of the old shells.
